Sealant Saturday

2008 Final Stats
Almost $156 thousand dollars worth of free dental hygiene services are donated to underserved children of Pennsylvania. Members of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists’ Association & registered dental hygienists teamed up with dental hygiene students, EFDAs, dental assistants and local dentists to place sealants on children’s permanent teeth. This year, between January 21 and April 26th, we had a total of 24 clinical sites across Pennsylvania participating in this initative.

Final Statistics for 2008 are as follows:
737 chair hours were donated by 521 volunteers: 203 dental hygienists, 267 dental hygiene students, 51 dentists and 41 EFDAs and/or dental assistants. A total of 676 exams were performed with 573 of those children receiving sealants for a total of 2801 sealants placed. Of the children examined, 189 had caries (28%) and 54 presented with pain or acute infection. All 189 children with caries were referred for further dental treatment.

Thank you to Pennsylvania-based DENTSPLY International Corporation for their generous donation of the sealant materials to make this event a huge success. This is the 6th year DENTSPLY has donated sealants to PDHA.

Thank you to Benco Dental for donating curing lights to Penn College for their Sealant Saturday program. This is the 4th year Benco has partnered with Penn Tech.
